The Band
no strings attached
We play stringed instruments and call ourselves “No Strings Attached” Without Strings? Is that some sort of a joke?
The expression, as any English-speaker knows, means “no further
conditions”. Put simply, we’re happy to play for just anybody, and the
gap between Entertainment and Classical is bridged in the joyful leap
of a Galliard. No fetters bind our music, or hold us back, and the
“Original Piece” is an invitation to variation. We cover and arrange
according to mood and circumstance. We don’t play “compositions”, but
rather tunes drawn from the day-to-day musical life of the 16th and
17th centuries. Sally-in-the-alley finds her way into stately drawing
rooms and funeral dirges become drinking ballads. The melodies at that
time adapted themselves snugly here and there, were enjoyed by rich and
poor alike, and so we perform them: outside, inside, for the intrepid
and the soulful, the fine arts connoisseur and the huntsman. This is
music to be danced, drunk, made love to, it comes with no caveats. Our
listeners need neither listen out for the fugal entries nor wait six
hours for the finale – with no detours they can escape with us to
another world. No strings attached! We do have to tune a few strings,
though, in order for the high and low violins to set the listener’s
“heart-strings” in vibration, as Shakespeare put it. And hearts-strings
always come with no strings attached....
